The Dogs

Romford. Coral. The Dogs. Thirteen races, thirteen opportunities to lose money, taken, I think, on eleven. A good night out, fun, possibly rather strange to take a camera, but it only got doused in Stella once, and seemed none the worse for it. I doubt I was surreptitious, pints of lager don't bring out the ninja in me, but some worthy memories of Hawky's stag do. Forgive the pretentious black and white, colours do strange things under lights, these work better. Stereotypes abounded, and whilst there were flat caps everywhere, I was disappointed not to to find jellied eels for sale anywhere.

  1. An excellent set of images, Jonathan. As you say, they work very well in mono.

Were these taken with the new 5D mark II?

  2. Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes, all with the 5D mkII. All at ISO 5000 with an extremely fast prime lens, and no flash. I should have bought one of these bodies a long time ago.

  3. Seriously, I reckon I could get photos like these published for you - they are very good. I work in the horse racing industry as a graphic designer and a number of publications I work for would be interested in your work (though more in the horse racing sphere) - perhaps another another string to your bow if you were interested?

  5. Hi, thanks for the comments. Given I was pretty beered-up I was pretty pleased too!
Factor, I'll be in touch - need to pay for the camera somehow, and if you think something could happen, then great. Never been to a horse race in my life though! As Alan says, it's all about dogging. Or something.

  6. Not pretentious, as I'm sure you're aware. Even I wouldn't post 15+ photos if I wasn't pleased with them! A very nice digression...

  8. If there was a single person at the track that DIDN'T support West Ham, I would be amazed.

  9. I used to work at the Dogs, and I still struggle to understand the idea of a night out there... Whatever, truly excellent photos.
