Maui List

Here’s a list of the native birds I saw on Maui, ie the ones that got there of their own accord rather than being brought there by people. Writing this list down for the blog is possibly one of the most enjoyable things I’ve done recently!

  1. We can only let our imaginations run riot and try to picture what birds were there before man (and his accompanying rats, cats and livestock) f**ked up the islands.

    1. Indeed Steve, it is a sad tale. Hawaii is one of the most recent and well-documented tales of extinction, this isn't Stegasorus - it has happened in the last couple of hundred years. What is left is still stunning though, and I think the general view is see it while you can sadly.

  2. Moa?!?!? Umm...shoot I actually don't know if you're kidding or not! Clearly it can't be THE Moa obviously. Right, I'm off to Google (and setting myself up for a slapstick fall I'm sure...)
